So without taking further time let's get started…

Overall Website SEO Analyzation

Overall Website SEO Analyzation - Historical SEO Optimization - Nixupken

Before taking any steps you need to know your current position in terms of SEO.

Therefore the very first step would be analyzing everything that you have done previously for SEO since the beginning day of your website, then you need to record everything for future comparison.

And this is a really important step because to rectify your mistakes you need to know them in the first place.

In this way, every next step would become easier for you.

To analyze the overall SEO of your website just take a pen and paper, then start to remember and note down everything that you have been doing for the SEO purpose till now.

As soon as you will go through my strategies following the below steps of this article you would gradually start to understand how important it is to perform Historical SEO Optimization on your existing website for lifting your website traffic.

Historical SEO Optimization

Now you might be thinking that what is this Historical SEO Optimization is actually?

So here is your answer; optimizing your old existing website contents for more exposure and traffic by updating them with the fresh new up to date contents is known as Historical SEO Optimization.

Historical SEO Optimization is the most important part of the SEO strategy for the existing websites because it's all about the main stuff and the soul of your website, which is the content.

Therefore, now you will learn how to make your website content better by optimizing them using the Historical SEO Optimization Tactic.

1. Find & Remove The Zombie Pages

Find & Remove Zombie Pages - Historical SEO optimization - Nixupken

Zombie pages are the pages that add no value to your website at all, these pages contain boring, ugly, useless, and thin content, as well these pages are totally dead and bring zero traffic for a long time period.

Having zombie pages on your website sends negative signals to Google and other search engines which is really harmful to your site as Google hates these kinds of pages.

Therefore our very first action would be finding those pages and remove them from your website immediately.

How To Find Zombie Pages?

Now you must be thinking that how to find those zombie pages?

So don't worry I am giving you some pro tips to find those zombie pages in your website right here right now, and the most important thing is that some of the tips are given by SEO expert Brian Dean himself.

If you follow my instruction then you would easily able to find those zombie pages within a moment as soon as you get to see them.

There are a few things you should keep in mind that I have listed below to consider a page as a zombie page;

  • Thin contents with less than 300 words
  • Contents that are not related to your niche
  • Pages that are not relevant for the current time
  • Category and Tag pages
  • Archive pages
  • Search result pages
  • Thin media pages
  • Dead pages with no traffic
  • Custom type pages

How To Remove Zombie Pages?

Once you have pointed out all the zombie pages it's time to remove them from your website.

Here removing doesn't mean to delete them entirely from your website.

Yes! there are a few kinds of contents that should be deleted from your website database completely but not all of them because some of the zombie pages are still important for your website.

Therefore instead of deleting them you just have to remove them from the search engine index by adding a simple "No-Index Tag" to them, which you can easily do using an SEO plugin like Yoast.

If you are thinking that what is the benefit of a no-index tag, then let me tell you that if you add a no-index tag to any of your pages then the search engine will not index those pages to their index database neither they will show them to any of their search results pages.

And this is a really good thing in order to make your website more SEO friendly.

Just to clear your confusion I am listing below that which zombie pages should be deleted entirely from your website and which are need to be added in the no index category.

Zombie Pages To Delete

  • Thin contents less than 300 words
  • Contents that are not related to your niche
  • Pages that are not relevant for the current time
  • Dead pages with no traffic

Zombie Pages To Do No Index

  • Category and Tag pages
  • Archive pages
  • Thin media pages
  • Custom type pages

Once you remove all the zombie pages from your website will become lightweight, and you would have less content than earlier, which is good for SEO because Google loves less but quality content.

After deleting zombie pages there is a crucial step that I have covered in the next section.

2. Redirect Deleted Pages To Relevant Pages

Redirect Deleted Pages To Relevant Pages - Historical SEO Optimization - Nixupken

Sometimes deleting a page permanently from your website can cause some major issues like,

  • When someone visits those pages then they will get a 404 error alert
  • If you have a few backlinks to those pages then you will lose them eventually
  • If you have linked those pages to the other pages of your site then it will cause broken link issues

Therefore, to prevent such issues it is highly recommended to redirect those deleted pages to some new relevant page or to your blog or homepage using the 301 permanent redirections.

In this way, if someone visits those deleted pages using any link or even from a search engine then they will not encounter an error message and will be automatically redirected to the page that you have been dedicated to.

The best way to redirect a page to another page is by doing it through your hosting cPanel or also you can use a plugin like Redirection by John Godley.

Now the upcoming step will lead you to some additional works to make your rest existing web pages better for SEO.

3. Dedicate 5-10 Canonical Pages

Dedicate 5-10 Canonical Pages - Historical SEO Optimization - Nixupken

Once you successfully find and remove the zombie pages as well as redirected those deleted pages to some relevant new pages, now it's time to dedicate some canonical content for your website.

Dedicate at least 5 to 10 canonical pages for your website and these pages should be in-depth contents and super thorough, also, you should link all the other pages of your site from these canonical pages for better navigation and Onsite SEO.

What Are The Canonical Pages?

Canonical pages are also known as pillar pages of a website and these pages would be based around the main 5 to 10 topics of your niche.

They are the parent pages among all the pages, therefore you should always keep them on the top of your website to make them more visible with priority.

Canonicalize pages give the signal to the search engines that these are the main pages or the parent pages for all the other pages with a similar topic, therefore, they will prefer this page to rank for that particular topic and prevent duplicate content issues.

4. Sub-Pages Based Around The Canonical Pages

Sub Pages Based Around Canonical Pages - Historical SEO Optimization - Nixupken

As soon as you have decided and dedicated your canonical pages now it's time to set up all your other pages as child pages or subpages of those canonical pages.

One thing you should keep in mind that all the subpages should be linked from the canonical pages within the content, in this way your canonical pages, as well as other pages, will gain more authority in terms of SEO.

And I am talking about all the pages that already exist there and the pages that you will be creating in the future.

5. Restructure Every Existing Page Properly

Restructure Every Existing Page Properly - Historical SEO Optimization - Nixupken

After you have dedicated your canonical pages and also set up the subpages for those canonical pages, now it's time to restructure your old page contents in the right way.

To restructure your page you should divide your page content into main three parts;

  • Introduction Part
  • Main Body Part
  • Conclusion Part

Introduction Part

While starting with the introduction part create a hook so that people get curious about it and get hooked to read your entire content to uncover the curiosity.

The hook should be related to their pain point, in this way, they would want to know more to get rid of their pain.

After the hook, you should explain in a brief that what exactly you are going to serve them within your entire content because this will work as a trailer of a Hollywood film that makes them feel more curious about the content.

Once you have done, now it is a better practice to create a table of content of your page, so that people can scan through your article quickly and jump to the part they are interested in. For this, you can use a free plugin named Easy Table of Contents By Steven A. Zahm.

Main Body Part

In the main body part, you are going to cover your entire article with a lot of sub-topics with the proper heading attribution under the main topic of your page.

Also, create sub-sub-subtopics under those subtopics with the proper headings if you require to do so.

Don't make your paragraphs larger than 20 words each, which should be under 2 lines only because the small chunks of paragraphs are very easy to read on mobile devices as well as on desktops.

Conclusion Part

This conclusion part is very crucial for every page because most of the visitors on your web pages will directly scroll through all over your page to the conclusion part to understand that what the entire page is all about.

If they like the conclusion of your page then they would again go to the top of that page and start reading the entire content, therefore the conclusion should be written really very well to grab the attention and encourage them to go through the entire page contents.

Also, you should never lose an opportunity to add at least once "Call To Action" in this conclusion section because this will encourage people to take further action instead of closing your website after consuming the content.

In this way you will be able to get more business through your website, also if you would like to learn more possible ways to generate business from your website then click the hyperlink on this paragraph to read my other article dedicated to this topic alone.

6. Update Existing Pages With 10x Better Contents

Update Existing Pages With 10x Better Contents - Historical SEO Optimization - Nixupken

Once you have created the structure for your pages now it's time to update your existing pages with 10x better content.

There is no rocket science behind making or updating normal content 10x better, you just need to keep a few things in your mind and you are good to go.

Thus for you, I am sharing some pro tips in the below to make your content 10x better;

  • Do proper research before writing anything
  • The page title should be KILLER and super attractive
  • The description should be short but expressing the entire story of the page
  • Introduction hook should be enough power to hold the audience with the rest of the content
  • Each paragraph should be short and to the point with the human touch
  • Write your contents in the voice as you are talking to a person one on one
  • Every topic under the post should be divided by the sub-topics and so on
  • Each topic should be covered with an in-depth explanation
  • Use facts, statistics, examples, and references as much as possible on the page
  • Always use relevant multimedia within the post to make it more interactive
  • Write sentences using easy words and grammar as you are writing for a 6th-grade student
  • Make the content better than any contents exist out there on the internet
  • End your article with a question to make your content more engaging

If you follow along all the above PRO tips to update your existing pages or to create a fresh new page then you will end up creating 10x better contents.

7. Add Images & Videos For Better UX

Add Images and Videos For Better UX - Historical SEO Optimization - Nixupken

In this age of information, our attention span is very short therefore adding a lot of text-based content on a web page is not enough anymore as it seems boring and overwhelming.

Hence if you want to grab your audience's attention for a long time span than the average then it is very useful to add some visual content to your web pages including images and videos.

But make sure those images and videos should be highly relevant to the page topic and seamlessly blend with the text-based content to complement each other.

Because putting a bunch of images and videos just for the sake of adding them on the page is not a good idea as it can hurt your overall website performance.

The main reason to add visual content to the website is to improve the user experience so that people love to stick with the web page and spend more time on it which is also highly recommended by Google itself.

People love to visualize the story and it is a really interesting and effective way to learn new things, that is the main reason infographic is getting more and more popular day by day.

Either you can make it yourself using free tools like Canva or Piktochart also you can hire a graphic designer on Fiverr or any similar platform.
