“If you are not embarrassed by the first version of your product, you’ve launched too late.”
— Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn
If you’re planning to create and launch a product then you don’t need to launch the very first version of your product with every feature you can think of. Don’t be scared to launch your product just as a Minimal Viable Product (MVP) with only the features that you think are necessary to test the market and see if people are even interested in your product or not.
You can always build on top of an MVP once you start getting traction, but don’t go out and spend money on a team of engineers and designers to create a whole bunch of new features if you don’t have the market demand for them yet.
The key to building a successful product is to keep an eye on the market and try to build something that people want and not what you think they want.
Therefore it’s fine to get embarrassed by the first version of your product as it’s never meant to be the final version. So take inspiration from that embarrassment and ideas from the criticism to improve the product and keep iterating it until it becomes successful.
