If you’re tired of paying a high renewal price for your domains to GoDaddy, and you want to transfer your domains to other reliable and popular registrars like Cloudflare, then this illustrative tutorial will help you achieve just that.
You might also want to check my other tutorial where I shared step by step method of transferring domain names into Cloudflare.
For now, in this tutorial we will only focus on transferring out domain names from GoDaddy, so let’s begin.
The very first thing you need to do is to log in to your GoDaddy account dashboard and then click on the My Products Button from the top navigation menu situated at the top right corner.
The next step is to click on the Manage button of the particular domain you want to transfer out from GoDaddy.
Clicking on this button will lead you to the Domain Settings page, where you can find all the important links that are involved in completing the domain transfer process.
It’s compulsory to unlock the domain if you want to transfer it from their platform, as it’s like an official permission to transfer out your domain from their platform to other.
You can unlock the domain by clicking the Edit button and then turn it off from the On/Off toggle under the “Locking prevents unauthorized changes, including transfer to another registrar” section of this page.
Once you turned off the domain lock now the next step is to turn off the privacy as well, or it can prevent you from transferring out your domain if the privacy is on.
You can turn it off from the same domain settings page, to do that you just need to find the Turn Privacy Off button under that Privacy Settings section and then click on that button.
As soon as you click on that button a popup window will open up where you need to select the consent checkbox and then hit the continue button.
Once that is done it will show you the difference between how the WHOIS data publicly displays now and how it will display after you turn off the domain privacy.
You just need to hit the Continue button to complete this action as after transferring your domain to another registrar account you can turn on the domain privacy again to hide your WHOIS data from the public database.
Now, this is one of the main steps to transfer away domain from GoDaddy.
After you turned off the domain lock and privacy you need to click on the link that says Transfer domains away from GoDaddy, which you can find on the top right of the same domain settings page.
As soon as you click on the above-mentioned link you will be redirected to a page named “Domain Transfer Out”, where you would find the Continue with Transfer button as shown in the below screenshot.
Now click on that button to proceed to the next and very crucial step of transferring the domain.
This is the final and very crucial step as I said earlier as well, in this step you need to hit the Click here to see the Authorization Code button.
After that grab the Authorization Code by clicking the Copy to Clipboard button, as this is the code that you’re going to need to provide to the registrar where you want to transfer your domain.
If you have followed along with the steps I have shared, then you might have already decided where you want to transfer out your domain, but still, if it’s undecided yet, then I would recommend transferring your domain to Cloudflare as it charges much cheaper renewal fees than Godaddy.
If you want to go with my suggestion then head over to my other tutorial on transferring domains to Cloudflare, where I will teach you the step-by-step process of transferring your domain into Cloudflare.
Although everything important has been already done, still if you want to further fast forward the process by manually confirming the domain transfer instead of waiting 3 – 4 days to auto-complete the process then these additional optional steps will help you with that.
After you follow the above-mentioned final steps you should see a notice on the domain settings page which contains “Pending transfer out, transfer in progress”, here you just need to click on the View details link.
Sometimes it can take several minutes to appear this notice so in that case, you can click on this link to further speed up things: https://in.godaddy.com/help/transfer-my-domain-away-from-godaddy-3560.
After that, on this page, you will see the domain you have requested to transfer out from Godaddy.
Here you need to click the checkbox and then click on the Accept Transfer button on top of that, and that would be enough as there is nothing left to do in this process.
Now your domain should be transferred to the new registrar immediately if you have already provided the authorization code and made the payment to them.
Just for confirmation, you can again go to your GoDaddy products page or domains page and check as your domain should not be there anymore if it has been properly transferred to the new registrar account.
In this tutorial, I have shared the step-by-step illustrative process of transferring out domains from GoDaddy to other registrars due to the unnecessary renewal pricing of GoDaddy.
If this tutorial seems helpful to you then I would highly suggest you share it with your community to help them figure this out as well.
